We offer childbirth education, baby care, breastfeeding, massage, exercise and parenting classes for couples and single parents.  Our instructors provide the most up-to-date, practical, research-based information. 

INSURANCE/FSA REIMBURSEMENTS AVAILABLE

Insurance companies and flexible spending accounts often reimburse the cost of Momease classes, lactation and doula services.

Prepared Childbirth

Classes for expecting couples looking for medicated and unmedicated births  taught by certified instructors.  Each class gives you and your partner the information, tools and techniques you need to successfully cope with labor and delivery. 

 

Weekend Childbirth  the weekend course , total of 12 hours is taught by Lamaze, ICEA and DONA certified childbirth educators. Topics included pregnancy changes, labor and birth phases, routine hospital procedures, procedures  for unmedicated birth, using epidurals, narcotics for a medicated birth and discuss cesarean procedures.  Weekend sessions are on Fri & Sat  or  Sat & Sun.   Tour of GWUH Women Center is included.

 

Childbirth 1-2-3* Medicate Childbirth  the six-hour, one day course will focus on the process for having a medicated birth, using epidurals or narcotics.  Topics covered are anatomy and physiology of labor, coping techniques prior to receiving medications for labor, obstertrical interventions, and postpartum recovery. 

If you attend this class at GWUH a tour of the Women Center will be provided.   

 

Comfort Measure & Relaxation Techniques *  Prenancy Refresher Class:   this three-hour class provides the expectant mother and partner with breathing, relaxation and comfort techniques needed to cope with pain of contractions.  It complements Momease prepared childbirth classes.  We also recommend this class for couples expecting 2nd or 3rd baby and need a "Refresher Class" .

A Natural Approach to Childbirth: 

Taught by a certified childbirth instructor, this class gives the pregnant woman and her partner the knowledge, support and skills they need for an unmedicated birth, as well as the information they need be prepared for whatever options they may choose or the path their birth follows.  The6-week series focuses on natural birth skills, prenatal nutrition and exercise, local hospital policies and procedures, relaxation and comfort techniques, strategies for laboring at home, and the many ways a partner can help. A Prenatal Tour of George Washington University Hospital is included.

 

 Baby Care for the 1st Month

 

     Breastfeeding Basics -   You and your partner learn and practice the latest breastfeeding techniques from certified lactation consultants.  

  

Baby Care Basics - Newborn appearance, diaper changing, bathing, dressing and when to call the doctor are just the beginning of this class that prepares you and your partner to care for your baby.

 

Infant & Child CPR -  This two and a half hour American Heart Association (AHA) course teaches parents and family members life-saving infant and child CPR skills.

 

Baby, Baby, Baby - Parents of Multiples   This helpful and informative  two-hour class focuces on the various childbirth alternatives and situations that parents of multiples often experience.

 

Touch and Tone  Exerices Classes 

 

Prenatal Yoga  Yoga helps you relax, stay flexible, relieve stress, and prepare for birth.  It stretches and cultivates your muscles so they work efficiently during birth, making birth easier. This Momease class teaches you skills that you can use throughout your life.

Prenatal Fitness and Strength - Training & regular exercise can help your body prepare for labor, delivery and postpartum recovery.  Exercise can lower stress levels, help to maintain a steady weight gain, relieve the physical discomforts of pregnancy, increase energy levels and promote a good night’s sleep. 

 

 Doula and Lactation Services

We can provide you with birth and postpartum doulas and lactation consultants.  Our unique “Momease On Call” program enables you to have your questions answered at anytime.   For a complete description, costs and to select a service, click on the link for each listing. 

 

Birth  or Labor Doulas   Our certified birth doulas are with you at the birth of your baby, assisting you and your partner with physical and emotional support to make your labor and delivery easier

Postpartum Doulas & Night Nurses   Our certified postpartum doulas assist you at home with the baby as they teach you valuable techniques for your child’s care and well being.

 

Lactation Consultants

GWUH Prenatal Tour of  the Women's  Center

Expectant parents are encouraged to take a complimentary tour of The George Washington University Hospital's Women's Center. The tour will meet in the hospital auditorium located on the lower level for an information session and then tour the 3rd floor Women's Center.  Preregistration is required. 

Children are not permitted to take this Prenatal Tour. Momease offers a seperate sibling class and tour for children 3 - 8 years old.  Please review the  Sibling Class - Becoming a Big Brother/Big Sister.

Sibling Class - Becoming a Big Brother/Big Sister $40.00
Click Here for Product Details! Welcoming a new baby into your home may be both exciting and scary for a sibling. The sibling class will help prepare children ages 3 to 10 years old for this life-changing event. A visit to our Women’s Center and a peek-a-boo of the nursery is included. Topics include how it feels to become a big brother or sister as well as age-appropriate discussions about the birth process and what to expect from a new baby. Big Brother or Sister will receive a gift and create a gift for new baby. Recommended for the last three months or last trimester of pregnancy. Parents are encouraged to enroll siblings age 3 to 10 in this fun, helpful class. Cost is $40 for parents and one child, plus $10 each additional child.
Sibling Class - $10 Fee additional children $10.00
